Sophmore Design - Medical Solution

2020

The overall goal of sophomore design was to find needs and generate a solution to those needs. I was the leader of Group 7, you can find our paper on the right.

Our need was chosen due to my grandfather. He has become a paraplegic due to the constant regrowth of osteophytes even after multiple laminectomies.

The project consisted of:
- Need Development
- Initial research (pathophysiology)
- Market research
- Prototype development
- Prototype modeling
- Production costs
​- Prototype Bill of Manufacturing (BOM)

Over the course of a 5 week SolidWorks module, we we're tasked with designing or replicating an intricate medical device. A set of winners would be chosen from the class pool. Rather than model something that already exists, I took upon the challenge of creating a new device that would be helpful in my research.

My final model consisted of +20 parts.

All but the conduction parts can be 3D printed and assembled by hand. The conduction parts require specific manufacturing due to the large voltage (500-2,000 V).

NIEHS Pneumatics - AutoCAD

2019

As it is proprietary government information, I cannot share with you the entirety of the single-line drawing I produced.

I was tasked with making the entirety of the pneumatics system at the NIEHS campus. The project took the entirety of my internship and would be worked on for an average of 1-2 hours per day. The space was well over 100,000 sq ft.

- Pneumatics systems
- Different valve types
- Pressure differentials
- Filters and Condensers
- Translating field drawings to single-lines
- Thermodynamics  

My single-lines were approved and are now in the file system as accepted building blueprints. Other single-lines, such as my flash steam project, are being used to update building systems.

A semester long project in E 101, considered to be the first engineering course at state.

I entered the Cisco 3D Printing category. The requirements were as follows:
- Product needs to be at least 30% PLA
- Needs to preform 2 distinct functions
- Should be able to be transported (i.e. vacation product)
- Sales pitch to Cisco representatives

I designed a traveling case for a retainer and toothbrush condensing the storage into one place.
